NORWICH – The City of Norwich welcomed a new mayor on January 1, with the swearing-in of Shawn Sastri for a two-year term.
About 30 people showed up to watch Sastri take the oath from City of Norwich Judge Michael J. Genute on New Year’s morning, with some giving him a standing ovation.
Sastri thanked his supporters, his family and former mayor Christine Carnrike for helping him prepare for the role. Sastri currently works for CZ-USA, and was born and raised in Norwich. He attended Norwich schools and graduated from SUNY Cobleskill in 1992.
In the four-way election Sastri received 478 votes for mayor; Jill Osterhout-Kraft received 423; Joe Maiurano 380 and Carnrike received 248.
