Blackhawks wrestlers fly past Marathon on senior night

GREENE – The Oxford-Greene Blackhawks picked up a big Section IV 50-30 win over Marathon on the mat Thursday, a night where the coaching staff honored the seniors of the 2019-2020 roster.
Prior to the start of the match, Paul Baker and Noah Kennedy were recognized for their years of dedication to the sport of wrestling as well as the program.
Baker and Kennedy both went on to win their bouts in the meet, earning nine of the team’s 50 points. Kennedy won his 195 pound match by pinning Marathon’s Nate Warner at the 1:09 mark in the first period.
Baker captured a 6-1 decision in the meet, taking down the opponent’s Mike Wales at 160 pounds.
Oxford-Greene received points early in the match as Marathon forfeited at 106, 120 and 126 pounds. Marathon earned all of the points given up due to no wrestler by capturing all bout wins in the meet by pinfall.
However, the Blackhawks dominated as Kaden Wakefield, Brady Smith and Damien Hitt pinned the opposition in their matches while teammate Tyler Brown picked up a 17-0 technical fall.
The win follows up a strong performance at the Stan Elinsky Tournament last weekend where the team placed second overall and had two return home as champions as well as 10 others finishing in the top six of their weight class.
Aiden Marcin and Smith each came away as title winners at the tournament hosted by Deposit-Hancock while Kennedy and Owen Marcin were runner-ups in their respective weight classes.
Brown, Gabe Gorman, Hogan Ludolph, and Hunter Page all placed fifth while Wakefield and Skyler Graves each finished third.
Damien Hitt secured a fourth place win and Abrams Parsons placed sixth.
Oxford-Greene heads to Cazenovia on Saturday for the Cazenovia Invitational. Action begins at 10 a.m.
