Tornado sneaks past Trojans in 3rd quarter for win

NORWICH – In a inter-county showdown, Norwich was able to hold on against the Trojans of Greene Saturday evening, winning 63-60.
Throughout the entire contest, the two teams were never separated by more than 10 points as the Chenango County battle came down to the wire.
Greene held a one point lead after the first quarter and continued to keep the lead into the halftime break as they outscored Norwich 13-11 in the second.
However, as the Purple Tornado have done in several games this season, Norwich used a third quarter scoring spurt to pull ahead of the Trojans 47-42 with the final eight minutes remaining.
Greene tallied 18 points in the fourth compared to Norwich’s 16 but the 21-point rally in the third allow the Tornado to keep the lead and take the non-league win.
Alec Frair of the Trojans led all scorers Saturday night with 17 points and teammate Evan Walters and Drew Erickson reached double figures, scoring 13 and 14 points. Nate Barry added nine in the tough loss for Greene.
Norwich’s balanced scoring was led by Carson Thornton’s 13 points. Carson Maynard finished with 12 while Tommy Flanagan registered 11. Logan Ford kicked in nine points and both JT Vinal and Torin Lawrence added seven points.
The Purple Tornado will travel on Tuesday for a highly anticipated Southern Tier Athletic Conference game with long-time rival Oneonta. Game time is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
