Three Lady Blackhawks record double-doubles in non-league win over Edmeston

Norwich scores big road win over Seton Catholic

OXFORD – After a setback against the Greene Lady Trojans last Wednesday, Oxford got back into the winning column by defeating the Edmeston Panthers in a close 59-54 Monday night non-league battle.
Three players on the Oxford squad came away with double-doubles and four finished with double digits in the scoring column.
Jada Albin tallied 11 points and 10 rebounds while Karley Miller ended the night with 10 points and a game-high 15 boards for the Blackhawks. Olivia Kelsey also chipped in with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Lady Blackhawks jumped out to a seven point lead after the first eight minutes of play behind six different players registering in the score book.
However, in the next stanza, Madison Bolton and the visiting Panthers responded by outscoring Oxford 18-16 to cut the lead to five at the half time break. Bolton paced Edmeston with 12 points in the first half to keep her team close before the intermission.
On the opposite side, Oxford’s Madalyn Barrows tallied 10 of her team-high 16 points in the first two quarters of play while teammate Miller aided with eight points.
Out of the locker room for the second half, the Blackhawks pushed the lead to a 13-point margin as the home team went on a 22-14 run with one quarter remaining.
Edmeston didn’t go away easy, going on a 15-point spurt in the final eight minutes and cut the deficit to just three points with less than two minutes left in the contest.
Still a three point game with 25 seconds left, Oxford’s head coach Chris Palmer called a timeout. Out of the break, Oxford added two more points to extend the lead to five and the victory.
Bolton scored a game-high 23 points in the loss for Edmeston. Colleague Maria Williams added 10 points while Logan Lund chipped in eight.
In the 42-35 loss to Greene a week earlier, Kelsey once again finished with a double-double as she scored 10 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
The Trojans and the Blackhawks were tied 17-17 at the half but Greene came out on a 12-5 run to take a seven point advantage by the end of the third. Both teams tallied 13 points in the final stanza to give the Trojans the win.
Greene was led by Olivia Kennedy and Kylee Peck in the scoring column as both finished with 11 points each in the win.
Oxford (6-4) plays the second game of their back-to-back home stand Tuesday against a tough Unatego team. Game time is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
Norwich 56, Seton Catholic 29
BINGHAMTON – The Lady Purple Tornado capitalized on a slow start by the host Saints to capture a Southern Tier Athletic Conference win Monday night. Norwich won 56-29 to extend their record to 7-2 overall heading into a STAC showdown against Oneonta on Wednesday.
The Purple Tornado were led by Abby Flynn’s 20 points Monday as the senior helped Norwich get out to a 17-2 lead after the first quarter. Seton first points of the game came with 2:30 left in the opening stanza.
Flynn scored nine of her points in the first quarter and teammates Margaret Dougher and Sydney Coggins each added four points to put the Tornado ahead by 15 early.
Norwich tallied 21 points as a team with eight different players scoring a points in the 21-7 second quarter run, pushing the Saints deficit to 29 at the halftime break.
Seton came out of the locker room for the second half to out score Norwich 20-18 but the first half rout secured the large win for Norwich.
Coggins ended the night with 13 points while Dougher and Abby Hansen each contributed six points.
Seton Catholic’s Reese Vaughn led the Saints with 12 points.
Norwich gets set to host long-time rival Oneonta on Wednesday. Tip-off is slated for a 7:45 p.m. start time.
