Marauders first half effort leads to 3rd win of season

OV downed by high-powered offense of the Rockets

SHERBURNE – The Marauders found their way back into the win column after a strong first half effort paced the Sherburne-Earlville team against Waterville Thursday evening. S-E captured the victory with a final of 48-37.
Jumping out to a 16-8 lead after the opening eight minutes of play, the Marauders tallied another 16 points in the second stanza to going into the intermission leading by 18.
Waterville answered in the third, outscoring S-E 19-8 but the stingy defense of Sherburne-Earlville held the visiting team to just four points in the final quarter of play to come away with the 11-point win.
Three Marauders ended the night with double figures in the scoring column. Robert Hill led S-E with 12 points while teammates John Oley and Noah Posson each chipped in 10 points. Gabe Irwin added eight and Preston Eaves tallied nine.
Connor Marriott of Waterville led all scorers in the contest with 14 points. Colleague Cole Pearsall scored 10 in the loss.
Sherburne-Earlville (3-9) will travel to Mount Markham on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. start.
DeRuyter 86, Otselic Valley 55
DERUYTER – The host Rockets opened up the game early, going on a 28-8 run in the first against the Otselic Valley Vikings Thursday. DeRuyter then pushed the lead to 29 points before halftime. Despite the strong second-half effort by OV, the home team came away with the 86-55 league win.
The Vikings nearly matched point for point in the third and was even in the fourth with DeRuyter but the early deficit by the home team was just too much for OV.
DeRuyter had five players reach double digits as they saw all players register points in the scorebook and had balanced scoring throughout. The Rockets were led by Tristan Worlock’s 15 points.
Otselic Valley saw a game-high 22 points from Lane Adams while eighth-grader Braeden Davis tallied 19 in the league contest.
The Vikings (1-7) travel to Madison Central School on Saturday where they will take on Cincinnatus at 1 p.m.
