NORWICH – The Spelling Bee Club returns to the Guernsey Memorial Library this month and it is now accepting new participants.
Students from any private or public school attending grades 5th through 8th in the greater Norwich region can attend free of charge.
The Spelling Bee Club will gather at the Guernsey Memorial Library’s Meeting Room beginning on Thursday, January 23, 2010, at 6:00 pm. The Spelling Bee Club will continue to meet every Thursday from 6 pm to 7 pm during the school year.
During the Bee Club meetings, students practice language, spelling, and vocabulary through games, special activities, and competitions.
Program volunteer Martha Ryan commented about the unique advantage of this program, “What makes this club so special is that parents attend the meetings and have active participation in the activities.”
She also commented that the students have the opportunity to meet new friends with similar interests.
Materials, competition awards, and refreshments are provided thanks to the kind contributions from parents and business partners. “The R.C. Smith Foundation helped us launch this pilot project in 2016. Thanks to the parents and the support from the Guernsey Memorial Library, we continue to offer this free program for our students," said Ryan.
Guernsey Memorial Library’s Executive Director, Connie Dalrymple appreciates the opportunity, “We are delighted to welcome back the Spelling Bee Club and look forward to inviting parents and students to explore the many resources and opportunities we have to enrich education and promote the love of reading.”
Parents and students can drop in at the first meeting to learn more and participate in the Spelling Bee EXTREME game.
This free program requires the participation of a parent or guardian.
Families interested in enrolling students can complete the registration forms at Guernsey Memorial Library. For more information about the program contact Kim Hazen at 607-334-4034.
