Storm bowling continues to power through season with two MAC wins

AFTON – The Unadilla Valley bowling teams carried on with their successful 2019-2020 season as both the boys and girls once again swept the three games against an opponent. On Friday, the Storm overpowered the host, Afton/Harpursville, to win all four points in the Midstate Athletic Conference match on the lanes.
The boys claimed the three games behind a solid and balanced team performance as all bowlers who finished all games rolled a series score over 500.
Colin Grant led the Storm with a three-game score of 567 in the match, scoring a 192 and a 182 in the first two games and saved his match-high 193 in the third.
Rolling the highest single game score on the lanes was Nick Guller of UV, bowling a 200 in game three. Guller also participated in the first game, finishing with a 159. Mike Bliss and Nate Rumovicz also split the games with Guller with Bliss recording scores in the games one and two and Rumovicz bowling in game two.
Bliss finished with a two-game score of 327 while Rumovicz hit a 158 in the second game.
Brandon Kneale and Will Rumovicz were the other Storm bowlers who bowled the match in it’s entirety. Kneal’s series score was a 552 with a high of 194 in game two. Will Rumovicz recorded a three-game score of 538, rolling a 191, a 155 and 192.
Afton/Harpursville’s Justin Sayman led the home team with a 488 match series. His highest game of the afternoon was a 180 in the competitive game two between the two teams.
The Lady Storm’s win was led by Gracie Oglesby, bowling a 511 series for the match. All other teammates finished the day with a score above 450 for the dominating UV victory.
Paige Catena had the highest single game score of both teams as she opened the match with a 184. Catena ended the afternoon with a 498 match series.
Pyper Kneale and Whitney Rogers rolled a final three-game tally within five pins of each other. Kneale scored a 466 for the match while her colleague finished with a 461 that included a game three score of 164.
UV’s Brynn Grant rounded out the scorecard for the visitors with a 456 and ended with the highest total in the final game of the day with a 185.
Afton/Harpursville’s Taylor Rutherford finished as the team’s top bowler, scoring a 423 series. Teammate Ash Caffery recorded the highest single game by the host team with a 155 in game two.
Earlier in the week, the Storm downed conference foe and powerhouse program Greene/Oxford.
In the MAC league showdown, Unadilla Valley captured all three games to win 4-0 in both the boys and girls matches.
Colin Grant once again led the way for UV, bowling a 700 for the match. He opened the day with a 243 and ended with a 259 for two of the highest single games of the day.
His challenger on the Greene/Oxford squad was Jakob Funnell, who ended with a 650 to lead his team. Funnell got off to a slow start with his 167 in game one but quickly recovered in game two with a 256. He ended the match with a 227.
Guller reached the 200-plus mark in his first two games, scoring a 234 and 223. He finished with a 585 for the three games while teammate Bliss recorded a 216 in game three, aiding in his 575 for the match.
Will Rumovicz added a series score of 546 for the Storm while Kneale rolled a 506 for the fifth spot in the lineup.
Greene/Oxford’s Nick Flynn scored a 205 in the first game and bowled a 543 in the match. Nick Shoemaker helped keep the team close with a 530 for the day while colleague Cameron Fish was just one pin off.
Cole Johnson was Greene/Oxford’s fifth bowler for the match and he ended with a three-game score of 450.
The two girls teams were in a close match as well but it was the Lady Storm who pulled off the sweep in the match.
The duo of Oglesby and Catena led the Storm again. Oglesby finished with a team-high series of 564 with her game three score of 221 being the highest of the afternoon. Catena helped UV capture the win with her series tally of 535.
Rogers added a 517 for the day and Pyper Kneale scored a 497. Brynn Grant and Anji Clark shared the fifth bowler spot. Grant scored a 178 and 148 in the first two games while Clark registered a 155 in game three.
Recording a match-high on the girls side was Greene/Oxford’s Kayli Willes as she rolled a 601 in the three games. Willes opened the day with a 216 and followed it up with a 206 in game two.
Erin Howard of the Greene/Oxford team scored a 541 for the team’s second-best bowler in the match. Teammate’s Halia Tallet and Brianna Fowlston each rolled series scores in the 400’s. Tallet ended the day with a 418 and Fowlston scored a 401.
Lilac Shaffer rounded out the scoring for the Greene/Oxford squad with a 386 for the match.
All three Chenango County teams are back in action on the lanes Tuesday. Afton/Harpursville heads to Susquehanna Valley at 9 a.m. while Unadilla Valley takes on Deposit and Greene/Oxford faces Hancock. Both UV and Greene/Oxford start at 3:45 p.m. and host the Tuesday afternoon matches.
