Chenango United Way raises $428,363 during fall campaign
CHENANGO COUNTY– On Tuesday the Chenango United Way announced the results of their Fall 2019 campaign. Executive Director Elizabeth Monaco released the following statement about the campaign:
“The Chenango United Way is proud to announce that we have finally closed donations on the fall 2019 campaign and we have exceeded our goal of $425,000. Thanks to the extreme generosity of our Chenango County contributors, you have raised $428,363 for our community this year. On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff and more than 200 volunteers at the Chenango United Way, thank you for all that you did to make this an amazing campaign. We could not have done it without you.”
The Chenango United Way funds 27 programs in Chenango County. Programs fall under three categories: education, financial stability, and health.
Non-profits and organizations apply for funding and the applications are reviewed by United Way volunteers. The local volunteers decide how the funding should be allocated and funds are then distributed to the community organizations.
According to the Chenango United Way, 15 percent of Chenango County's families are living below the federal poverty line, while 33 percent of families represent the Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (ALICE) population.
ALICE represents those families or individuals who are working but still are not making enough to cover all of their necessary costs. This means one out of every two families in Chenango County are struggling to afford basic needs.
The Chenango United Way is partnering with the Income Community Impact Team (CIT), a collaborative group of local non-profits, churches, government agencies and businesses, to look at the ALICE report data and develop long-term strategies for breaking down the barriers facing families seeking financial stability.
