Bobcats’ Leizear drops 28 in win against Harpursville


NORWICH – A strong start to a game isn’t something unusual for the Norwich Lady Purple Tornado. Monday night, the Tornado squad continued to get out a big lead after scoring 25 points in the opening stanza. Norwich then cruised to a 80-34 win over the visiting Chenango Valley Warriors for the second time this season.

Margaret Dougher of the Tornado came out shooting, knocking down three 3-pointers in the first to pace the team with 11 of the team’s 25. Emily Evans chipped in another eight points in the quarter as the Norwich team took a 22-point lead.

Dougher finished with a game-high 19 points in the win and both Abby Flynn and Sydney Coggins reached double figures in the scoring column. Coggins tallied 12 while the Norwich senior on the inside ended the night with 10 points.

As a team, the Purple Tornado scored 30 of their 80 points in the game behind the 3-point arc with six different members hitting at least one from long range.

Norwich used balanced scoring throughout the team for the remaining three quarters of the team. The home team tacked on another 17 points in the second quarter to go into the locker room ahead 42-13.

After the break, the Tornado held Chenango Valley to a combined second half total of 21 points while Norwich went on to outscore the Warriors by 17, scoring 23 in the third and 15 in the fourth.
