BINGHAMTON – Trailing by five at the end of the first quarter, Norwich battled their way back into the game against the Chenango Valley Warriors Tuesday night, tallying 20 points in the fourth to take the 71-60 Southern Tier Athletic Conference win.
The Purple Tornado built up the momentum shift into their favor after back-to-back 3-pointers by Tommy Flanagan at the end of the first half to pull within three of the home Warriors.
In the second half, Flanagan picked up where he left off as he drained another two. Carson Maynard got into the long distance action, hitting one of his own as Norwich tied the game at 51-51 at the conclusion of the third quarter.
Using the charity stripe in final eight minutes of play, the Purple Tornado received another 3-pointer from Flanagan – his sixth made deep ball of the game – and two buckets inside the arc from Maynard to take over the lead.
Down the stretch, Norwich went 11-for-15 at the foul line to hold on for the win. On the defensive end of the floor, the Tornado held Chenango Valley to just nine points.
Flanagan ended the night with a game-high 26 points and Maynard finished with 23. Vinal also scored in double figures with 12 points.
Logan Ford contributed six and Jahlil Jones chipped in four for the Tornado.
It was a game of 3-pointers as both teams each made eight shots from behind the arc. Riley Spencer of CV made four to finish with 19 points in the game. Max Singer led the Warriors with 22 points and Dom Testani added 12.
