Norwich bowling kicked off post-season action on STAC championships

VESTAL – The final Southern Tier Athletic Conference bowling tournament of the season kicked off the post-season for both the Norwich boys and girls teams.
The Purple Tornado boys ended up with a 10th place finish as Kai Sheer, Cooper Burton, Parker Smith, Dawson Robinson and Cameron Birtch combined for a three game total of 2,678 pins.
The Lady Tornado complied a final score of 1,508 between just four bowlers and were led by Andie Mucha’s 488 three-game series.
Mucha opened up the tournament with a 189 and went on to roll a 143 and 156 for the next two games. Her teammate Sophia D’Abbraccio ended the day with a 153, a 146 and 113 to tally a final series of 412.
Chickie Roque scored a 365 and Gwynnie Kwasnik bowled a 343 for the day to round out Norwich’s score card on the girls side as the team finished 13th in the tournament standings.
The Tornado boys team started out strong with three bowlers recorded a 200-plus pin game. Birtch led the team with a 225 in the first game, ending with three straight strikes in the 10th frame.
Sheer added a 202 with strikes in five straight frames in the early part of the game while Smith finished game one with a 200. Both Burton and Robinson contributed a 159 to get Norwich to a 945 total for the game.
In game two, the team combined for a 200 as Sheer led the way with a 209. Smith ended with a 194 while Birtch rolled a 192. Robinson added a 173 and Burton bowled a 154 to help keep the Norwich team in the top 10.
Unfortunately for the Tornado, game three saw a setback from the team as they tallied a pin count of 811 as a group.
Burton scored a 114 while Robinson rolled a 134. Sheer had a 178 for game three, Smith recorded a 180 and Birtch finished with his second game over 200, posting a 205.
Both the boys and girls take on the Section IV field over the weekend. The girls are set for action on Friday at 3 p.m. while the boys take to the lanes on Saturday at 9 a.m. Both tournaments take place at Midway Lanes in Vestal.
