Seward welcomes students from Liberty Partnerships Program to capitol

ALBANY – New York State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) met at the Capitol with students from the Liberty Partnerships Program (LPP) on Tuesday.
The LPP was established in 1988 to address the significant school dropout rate among New York’s youth. The program, funded through a grant by the New York State Education Department, involves colleges and universities, schools, parents, students, community organizations, business & industry and local government agencies as stakeholders.
Students enrolled through both the SUNY Cobleskill and SUNY Morrisville campuses were among those in attendance.
“These students, through the help of the Liberty Partnerships Program, are working toward a high school diploma instead of dropping out,” said Seward. “Many will be moving on to college, something they may not have dreamed possible had it not been for the work of those involved in LPP.”
The LLP offers eligible students a comprehensive pre-collegiate, dropout prevention program that includes a variety of intervention activities and services tailored to meet the needs of students and help prepare them for college and career.
SUNY Cobleskill serves students from seven Schoharie County school districts along with the HFM (Hamilton, Fulton, Montgomery) BOCES PTECH program. In total, the SUNY Cobleskill LLP served 408 students during the 2018-19 school year.
SUNY Morrisville’s Norwich campus has served as the Chenango County host agency for this program since its inception. Current partnership schools include Unadilla Valley Central School, Otselic Valley Central School, Bainbridge-Guilford Central School, and Norwich City Schools. In total, the SUNY Morrisville LLP served 400 students in the 2018-19 school year.
