Lady Marauders capture league win over Clinton on senior night

B-G tops UV in MAC playoff contest
SHERBURNE – A slow start to senior night for Sherburne-Earlville turned into a 46-33 win over Clinton Friday night as four Lady Marauders played on the home floor for the final time of their basketball career.
Jaci Wright, Maria Albertina, Elizabeth Peila and Destinee Posey were recognized prior to the start of the regular season finale for S-E and all four started the game with Tessa Cole.
In the first quarter of play, three of the seniors registered points as the Marauders took a 9-5 lead. Posey paced the team with four points in the stanza. She continued to score in the second as she knocked down a 3-pointer – one of three in the quarter by the home team – before the halftime break.
Posey finished with 15 points, a career-high for the senior on her special night.
Also hitting a 3-point field goal in the second was senior teammate Peila, who finished with seven points on the night.
Wright, who made a free throw in the first quarter, added a basket in the fourth quarter when Sherburne-Earlville extended their lead with a 17-10 run in the final eight minutes of play.
In the third quarter, Albertina recorded her first bucket of the game and all four senior scored at least two points on their special night.
Clinton outscored S-E in the third quarter 10-9 but the seven point lead before the half and the seven point advantage in the fourth quarter was enough for the Marauders to come away with the senior night win.
Clinton’s Hanna Morris finished with eight points to lead the team. Ella Morse and Lizzie Wrather each added seven points in the loss.
Cole finished with a game-high 19 points to pace Sherburne-Earlville. She made four 3-pointers in the contest.
S-E has qualified for the Section III tournament but waits for the announcement of their seed and first round game. The information for sectional are set to be released on Wednesday.
Bainbridge-Guilford 51, Unadilla Valley 35
NEW BERLIN – In a game that was separated by just one point at the end of the first quarter and five points by the intermission turned into a 51-35 win for the Bainbridge-Guilford Bobcats, capturing the Midstate Athletic Conference playoff victory over Unadilla Valley on Friday.
Thanks in large part to the sharp shooting of B-G senior Macie Leizear, the Bobcats pulled away from the Lady Storm in the third quarter with an 18-8 run.
Leizear, who finished with a game-high 30 points, hit two of her six made 3-pointers in stanza as Bainbridge-Guilford built the 15 point lead before the fourth and final quarter of play.
“[B-G] shot very well from the floor,” said UV’s head coach Brandi Whitbeck. “We couldn’t guard Macie [Leizear] and she shot lights out.”
Only playing with five players in the, all Bobcats scored. Danielle McEntee tallied nine points for Bainbridge-Guilford, including the seventh made 3-point basket.
Taylor Parsons added six points while Jordyn Parsons finished with four. Sarah Cannistra chipped in a basket for B-G in the win.
Keona Courtright finished with a team-best 10 points and teammate Kayla Christain registered seven points as she made UV’s only 3-point field goal of the game.
Kyleigh George, Alexis Buchanan, Meegan White and Claire Converse each ended the day with four points in the loss.
Unadilla Valley end their season with an overall record of 8-12, finishing .500 (4-8) in MAC play.
