NORWICH – The Chenango SPCA, a not-for profit, no-kill shelter, is holding one of the group's largest fundraisers February 29, the 16th annual Fur Ball event.

The ball will take place from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, February 29, at the Canasawacta Country Club.

“The Fur Ball is an opportunity for the community to have a great meal, dance and just generally have fun while raising money for our animals,” said Executive Director Annette Clarke “The funds go directly for animal care and will help us maintain the high level of care they deserve.”

The semi-formal event will feature live music for dancing, a silent auction, dinner with a choice of prime rib, stuffed chicken, or breaded haddock, as well as a chocolate fountain and champagne.

Live music will be performed by Brothers and Friends. The cover band is based in Binghamton and plays dance, classic, folk, and Irish music.

Sponsors for the event include Blue Ox Energy, Chenango Eye Associates, Golden Artist Colors, Matthews Auto Group, McCredy Motors, NBT Bank, GHS, and the Staffworks Fund.

Supporting the CSPCA doesn't just mean supporting animals in the shelter, but also animals in the community.

The Shelter offers four assistance programs for qualified community members.

The Full Bellies Pet Food Pantry is offered once a month to Chenango residents on a financial assistance program and provides pet food and supplies to pet owners three times a year.

The Kerby Flea Program offers flea medication at a discounted cost to pet owners who qualify. They can receive two tubes of medication at $4 a tube, then two additional tubes at $8 a tube.

The Spay and Neuter Outreach Opportunity for Pets (SNOOP) is a financial assistance program that aids in the cost of spay and neutering two pets per household per calendar year.

The Pet ID program aids in providing identifying tools, such as ID tags and microchips, to help make reuniting with a lost pet an easier process.

Tickets for the event are $55 a person and can be purchased at the CSPCA, or online at chenangospca.org/events.

There are other ways to support the CSPCA other than attending the event, for example they are currently in need of Pine Sol and paper towels. Donating items such as cleaning supplies and office supplies helps the CSPCA use their funding for more vital things like caring for sick animals.
