Lady Marauders end season with battle against No. 5 Thousand Islands
CLAYTON – Putting in a strong fight, the Lady Marauders took on the fifth-seeded teams from Thousand Islands on Friday night for a first round Section III contest. Sherburne-Earlville, however, fell by a final of 58-42 to bring their 2019-2020 season to a close.
S-E senior Elizabeth Pelia, a transfer student in her only season with the Marauders girls basketball team, finished her career with a double-double as she pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds and scored 12 points.
Teammate and Sherburne-Earlville’s leading scorer for the year Tessa Cole led all scorers with 24 points, hitting one 3-point field and doing most of her damage from the free throw line. Cole went 11-for-12 at the charity stripe (91.7 percent) to score nearly half of her points.
Thousand Island’s Kennaday Amo ended the night with a team-best 19 points and 10 rebounds. She added eight assists to her stat line. Colleague Delaney Wiley contributed 19 points while Kelsey Byers added 10 to give the fifth-seeded team three in double figures for the win.
The Marauders also saw points scored by senior Maria Albertina and Alexis James in the loss. Albertina, who also played her last game in a S-E uniform, finished with four points and James added a basket.
Fellow Sherburne-Earlville senior Jaci Wright came away with seven rebounds in the loss.
S-E finishes with a final overall record of 8-13 and a league record of 7-9.
