Painting your home this summer could pay off with the Paint Rebate program

NORWICH – With the anticipation of warmer weather, the City of Norwich is encouraging residents to take advantage of the Paint Rebate program.
The rebate program will reimburse home owners who are painting the exterior of their home $10 per gallon of paint, up to 20 gallons.
Code Enforcement Officer Amy Donnison said, "Not many homes take more than 20 gallons of paint to fully cover the home."
Residents should bring their dried paint lids and receipts to the code enforcement office located at 31 East Main Street in Norwich to request reimbursement.
"The lids show us what color the house was painted. So if you bring us a blue lid and the house is yellow then we'll know you didn't paint your house," said Donnison.
Residents can claim reimbursement for 20 gallons of paint per calendar year. Donnison stated that if only a portion of that 20 gallons is claimed, residents are encouraged to come back and make another claim if they use more paint before the end of the calendar year.
"I like when people come in because it means more pretty houses for the area," said Donnison.
According to HGTV, a good exterior paint is one hundred percent acrylic latex. As paint dries, the solvent evaporates, leaving behind only the pigments and binders. Acrylic latex has better binders, which will hold the pigments in place longer. This improves durability.
