Man pleads guilty after high speed chase and assault on officer, gets time served
NORWICH – A man who evaded police following a car chase and then was later charged with resisting arrest and assault, pleaded guilty Monday to related charges in Chenango County Court.
Michael P. Piliero, 22, of Earlville pleaded guilty to third-degree assault and resisting arrest. As part of a deal with the Chenango County District Attorney’s Office. Piliero was sentenced to serve 60 days in jail, followed by three years of probation.
Chenango County Court Judge Frank Revoir Jr. told Piliero to consider the officer's perspectives during the incident.
“You could have killed someone driving like that,” said Revoir. “You’re lucky that you’re not up for vehicular homicide charges right now.”
“Put yourself in the shoes of the officers, they have to wonder if you’re running because you’re some kind of stupid 22 year old, or if you’re running because you’re a hardened criminal with who knows what.”
