NORWICH – One of Norwich’s oldest churches has committed $25,000 toward a new emergency room and walk-in center at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital.

Parish leaders gathered Tuesday at Emmanuel Episcopal Church to present a ceremonial check to campaign leaders. The pledge is the latest commitment to be announced in the capital campaign, the hospital’s largest fundraising effort in three decades.

“Jesus commands his disciples to love God and love our neighbor,” said Fr. Steve White. “What better way can there be to do that than to help our community, rich and poor alike, obtain high-quality medical care right here in our community?”

Dr. Drake Lamen, President and CEO of UHS Chenango Memorial, thanked Fr. White and his congregation for their commitment to the hospital and community.

“We are incredibly grateful for Emmanuel’s support and leadership,” Lamen said. “They are an organization committed to making our community a better place for all who call Chenango home.”

According to Lamen, the campaign has so far raised more than $6 million to support construction of a new Emergency Room and Walk-In Center, as well as strategic investments in Diagnostic Imaging and infrastructure to support the growth of future services. The work is part of the first phase of the hospital’s Chenango Medical Neighborhood Plan, which will transform the delivery of care at UHS Chenango Memorial.

“We are humbled by the support we’ve received from the community, which is enabling us to make the largest concentrated investment in our facility in more than 50 years,” Lamen said. “The funds we have raised with the campaign will help ensure we can leverage both the state funding we are receiving and our own resources to fully realize our vision for this project.”
