Confirmed COVID-19 cases in Chenango jumps from 4 to 14 over the weekend
CHENANGO – Monday morning the Chenango County Department of Health confirmed there are 14 cases of COVID-19 in Chenango. The number of cases was at four on Friday and increased by ten over the weekend.
The health department also confirmed 117 residents were under a precautionary quarantine and 65 residents are under mandatory quarantine.

The department responded Friday morning by saying the numbers were changing and offered few specifics.
“There isn’t an average number of tests. Supplies are coming in spurts, so the best answer is that providers are testing as many people as supplies allow. Return time is also a moving target that depends on lab capacity and surges in testing. We have seen results return under 24 hours but also have waited days for results,” responded Director Environmental Health and Code Enforcement Isaiah Sutton, Friday.
The last time the Chenango Department of Health released figures about Covid-19 testing was on March 13, when officials reported about a dozen people had been tested, a few days later the first case in the area was confirmed.
Following the department’s initial response that gave no specific numbers, the Evening Sun sent written questions Friday afternoon and asked for clarifications and any helpful estimates. The department has not yet responded to the requests.
