EARLVILLE - Police said the Lighthouse Community Church in Earlville was set on fire Wednesday night, with fire department officials spending hours overnight battling the flames.
According to Earlville Fire Department Chief Jim Doyle, a 911 call was received at approximately 10:40 p.m. Wednesday night stating that a church located at 53 South Main Street was on fire.
New York State Police Trooper Aga Dembinska said Brian C. Carver was arrested for third-degree arson, a class C felony, at the scene Thursday night. The Chenango County District Attorney’s Office also confirmed that Carver has been charged.
Doyle said the church was fully involved upon arrival, and that firefighters were on the scene until early Thursday morning.
“It took about three minutes for us to get to the station, and another three to arrive on scene,” said Doyle. “When we arrived the north side of the building was fully involved.”
