More than 200 receive free Easter Baskets

NORWICH - Easter baskets created by a local attorney and her family were distributed for free at the Norwich Family YMCA, with the help of Helping Hands volunteer Lorri Race.

According to Race, the giveaway wouldn’t have possible without the hard work of local attorney Diane Destefano, her son Parker, and her daughter Lauren. She added that the family has been hard at work creating the 230 Easter baskets that were originally going to be donated at the March Helping Hands donation night.

“She was adamant that somehow these baskets were going to get out to the community,” said Race. “The first round of giving went to the Norwich schools; we worked with the Gibson and Perry Brown social worker and were able to get some baskets delivered to school students on April 7 as well.”

“After delivering to the school [last week], I could tell by the look on her face she wanted to do more, so I offered to post on facebook about a free Easter basket giveaway, and she didn’t hesitate to say ‘yes, let’s do it!’”
