CHENANGO COUNTY - A website focused on helping small businesses is launching Friday, and representatives said several businesses have already signed up.
According to Improve Norwich Now Co-Founder Jen Westervelt, GiveHaveNeed.com is an opportunity for businesses to receive financial assistance from community members who care. She said the website allows customers to purchase gift cards for local businesses, which generates revenue for stores that are closed as well.
“For the businesses who need additional cash flow, this can be a big benefit for them,” said Westervelt. “It’s also for caring community members who want to support their favorite businesses.”
Westervelt said the mission of Improve Norwich Now is to remove barriers and provide supports, so all community members can reach their full potential. She said the website reflects a partnership with Metis Consulting Group to help people who are struggling. She added that there is still time for businesses to put in an application, and that the website will go live on Friday.
President and CEO of Metis Aimee Koval said when given the choice between taking time off or volunteering, her team decided to volunteer and make a difference.
“There’s such a feeling of powerlessness right now with everyone staying at home and places being shut down,” said Koval. “This is a way we can help out other businesses.“
Koval said as a certified B-Corporation, Metis is focused on social-corporate responsibility. She said so far the organization has donated approximately 67 work hours into the website, which is an investment of around $9,000.
She added that being a B-Corporation is all about accepting social responsibility, and being a business that is a driving force for good.
“I’m really proud of this team for all that they’ve done so far, and I’m happy to be able to help other businesses," she said.
Those who are interested in receiving updates on the website’s progress may visit Improve Norwich Now’s facebook page for additional information.
GiveHaveNeed is still accepting applications from businesses, and Westervelt said getting a spot on the website is free. She added that Improve Norwich Now doesn’t gain a profit from the website.
