NORWICH - After 20 years of service to the Norwich Fire Department, firefighter Stephen Cady retired on Sunday, with plans of continuing to serve as a volunteer.

According to Norwich Fire Department Chief Jan Papelino, Cady started working at the department part-time around the mid-90’s, and has continued to work hard for the residents of Norwich since.

“I’ve known Steve pretty much since he started here,” said Papelino. “On his first day he assisted at the scene of a fatal accident, and on his last day he helped at the scene of a garage fire.”

“He’s always been respectful to people, and I think a lot of patients we’ve transported appreciated that.”
