Phase One of reopening Norwich starts today
NORWICH - The City of Norwich has developed a plan for the reopening of city offices and facilities. The phased in plan will mirror the first three phases proposed by the governor for reopening New York State by region.
City Department of Public Works employees will return to full staffing on Monday, consistent with the state’s Phase One guidelines.
“We have established strict policies and guidelines to keep our employees and the public safe,” said City of Norwich Mayor Shawn Sastri. “All of the protocols are consistent with state guidelines and CDC recommendations.”
All city buildings will remain closed to the public during Phase One. City park pavilions, playground equipment, basketball courts, Baker Dog Park and public restrooms will remain closed until further notice. The potential reopening of these facilities and Kurt Beyer Pool will be considered separately and in conjunction with public health guidance. The tennis courts at Weiler Park were available for use starting Saturday, May 16.
When the Southern Tier Region is permitted to move to Phase Two, City Hall will be reoccupied by most staff but open to the public by appointment only. More details on this will be provided when a Phase Two date is confirmed. The full reopening of city buildings will occur when the region goes to Phase Three.
“While we want to resume city services as soon as we safely can, the health and well being of our employees and public visiting our buildings is our main concern,” said Sastri.
