Man pinned by falling tree in Coventry airlifted to hospital

COVENTRY - A man was struck by a falling tree in the Coventry area while logging and was airlifted to Wilson Medical Hospital for traumatic injuries.


According to Chenango County Sheriff’s Office Chief Dispatcher A. Wesley Jones, the incident occurred Sunday afternoon at 290 Snow Road in Coventry. Jones said it was reported that a man needed to be extricated from the woods following a logging incident.


“We received a call at 1:28 p.m. yesterday that someone was logging in the area of 290 Snow Road in Coventry and was hit by a fallen tree,” said Jones. “Another person who was logging with the individual called for help.”

“All I can say at this point is that the victim is a male in his 50’s, and at this point we believe he is still alive.”


He said emergency responders used utility terrain vehicles to reach the man, and were able to successfully free him. He added that at 2:08 p.m. on Sunday the man was extricated, and by 3 p.m. he was being airlifted to UHS Wilson Medical Center in Binghamton.
