SHERBURNE - The Roger’s Environmental Education Center in Sherburne was burglarized earlier this month, and yesterday police asked the community to help identify a suspect on camera footage.

According to Chenango County Sheriff’s Office Detective Sergeant Gary Miller, the break-in occurred late on the night of July 7 into the morning of July 8. Miller said no one was injured, and an investigation is ongoing.

“All I can say at this point is that it was forced entry, and we’re in the process of following up with several leads,” said Miller. “This is a case that we really want to solve, and we could use the public’s assistance.”

The camera footage shows what appears to be a man in a light colored hoodie with dark pants walking around the Rogers Center. A still image was also released from the center, showing the individual inside of the building.

As of the time of print, both the video and still images are available for public viewing at the Rogers Environmental Education Center facebook page.

Miller said the sheriff’s office is in the process of gathering DNA and fingerprint evidence and having it processed. He said cash was stolen from the non-profit, and asked that anyone with information call (607) 337-1935.

When asked about the incident, Friends of Rogers Executive Director Simon Solomon thanked the community for its support and focused on the future.

“It's an unfortunate thing to happen in our community, but we appreciate our community’s support during this time,” said Solomon.

Solomon said those who wish to support Friends of Rogers and the Rogers Center may participate in the Tesla raffle, which both helps the center and enters individuals into a drawing for a 2015 Tesla Model S valued at approximately $35,000.

Those who are interested in learning more about the center’s fundraiser may visit the Rogers Environmental Education Center facebook page or the Friends of Rogers website, friendsofrogers.org.
