Barn continues to burn after multi-department battle with hay fire

EATON - Multiple fire departments responded to a hay fire on the border of Madison County Sunday night that officials considered a total loss.


Officials warned that area residents may see smoke for several days as it continues to smolder and burn.


According to a statement from the Eaton Fire Department, at 7:02 p.m. on Sunday, they received multiple 911 calls stating that there was a barn fire at the corner of Carey and River Roads in the Town of Eaton.


Madison County Fire Bureau Coordinator Doug Shattuck said the fire occurred at “Ta Hell N Back Dairy” at 2668 Carey Road, Eaton, and that no one was injured throughout the incident.

Shattuck said the Morrisville Fire Department Chief Brian Jenkins was the first to arrive on scene. Eaton Fire Department representatives said Engine 163 along with Assistant Chief Richard Stoddard arrived shortly after.


He said the barn was full of hay and the decision was made to let the fire burn out after the structure was deemed a total loss.
