SHERBURNE – Friends of Rogers will host a weeklong virtual 5K this year with prizes and t-shirts available for participants.
The Rogers Center in Sherburne is operated by Friends of Rogers Environmental Education Center, Inc., a nonprofit organization that offers educational programs for people of all ages.
According to Friends of Rogers Executive Director Simon Solomon, this year’s Friends of Rogers Wild Choose Chase 5K will open on Saturday, September 5th and continue through Saturday, September 12th to support their nonprofit.
“There will be no congregation of people at a starting line due to the coronavirus,” said Solomon. “That being said the course at the Rogers Center will still be an option for people if they so choose.”
“We’ve also lowered the age requirement so children four and up can participate too, and we’re hoping to get entire families involved this year.”
Solomon said the event allows participants to complete the 5k race at their own pace and at a time and location of their choosing. He said at the conclusion of their 3.4-mile trek, individuals can upload their time and be ranked among other participants.
“The Wild Goose Chase 5K event is special for our supporters, so we will have the course set up on property for the week,” he added, “People can run or walk the trail on their own and submit their time when finished.”
“We didn’t want to miss the 5th year of this great event.”
He said there is special $5 discount pricing for children ages 4-10 and random prizes will be awarded to participants.
Those who are interested in registering for the event may visit runsignup.com/Race/Info/NY/Sherburne/RunFORRogersCenterWildGooseChase for additional pricing information.
Solomon said t-shirts will be available at the conclusion of the 8-day virtual time period and mailed to those from out of the region thereafter. He said t-shirt registration deadlines have been extended up to September 3 to try and allow new participants the opportunity to get one.
He added that the trails at the Rogers Center are open dawn to dusk daily and the restrooms are open Fridays and Sundays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Visitor Center remains temporarily closed at this time.
