Wolf Mountain Nature Center to host fundraiser on Sunday

SMYRNA – The 14th annual “Honoring the Spirit of the Wolf” fundraiser and celebration will take place this weekend, with organizers continuing the tradition of giving pumpkins filled with treats to the animals at the Wolf Mountain Nature Center.
According to event representatives, the celebration will take place from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday at 562 Hopkins Crandall Rd. in Smyrna.
In a statement to the public, organizations shared that this year’s event was scaled back due to the coronavirus, and in response to that, the event will be smaller than in prior years.
Organizers said they will continue the tradition of giving treat-filled pumpkins to the animals as enrichment activities during the day, and that smaller information and vendor booths will be scattered throughout the Center's 65 acres providing guests opportunities to social distance while enjoying the outdoors and watching the animals.
They said attendees may help stuff pumpkins for the animals, visit with the Sled Dogs of Smokey Hill, grab a bite to eat from Gilligan's who will sell food at the event, listen to stories at our tipis, shop locally made crafts at the tipis and in the gift shop, and check out our animal skull collection.
They added that individuals may also hike the forest nature trails and search for hidden treasures along the way to win a prize, and admission is $8 per person; kids ages five and under free.
Organizers said no reservations are needed, and that the event will be cash only due to a lack of quality internet or cellular service. Organizers added that masks and social distancing will be enforced at the event.
