NORWICH – For the first time, Commerce Chenango will host a virtual auction with a number of items donated by more than 50 businesses in the community.
According to Commerce Chenango President and Chief Executive Officer Kerri Green, while there isn’t a specific fundraising goal for the event, all funds raised through the event will be used to help the Chenango County community.
“We are appreciative of anything the community is willing to give,” said Green. “Their generosity has been overwhelming and we know we can continue to do great work for Chenango County with some additional funding.”
Green said throughout the coronavirus pandemic Commerce Chenango has stepped up to help bring food to frontline workers, keep businesses updated on policy changes, and ensure that funds are available to businesses in need.
She said bidding on items will open at 5 p.m. on Friday, and with the help of sponsor Preferred Mutual Insurance Company, Commerce Chenango introduces a new way that the community can “give back” and show support for the role Commerce Chenango played this year in helping our business community through the COVID pandemic.
“Revenue earned through the items donated will help to support the mission of Commerce Chenango, which includes advocacy, education, professional development, funding and economic development initiatives for all of Chenango County,” said Green.
Individuals interested in bidding on items may visit https://www.32auctions.com/commercechenango for photos and additional information.
Green said certain items will have the option to be purchased immediately after the bidding begins. She said certain items have been marked for live auction, which will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday November 12, via Zoom.
“In light of the negativity that seems to hover due to the uncertainty of the future, it’s worth noting that when we asked for auction donations, the community responded and then some. Commerce Chenango stepped up to help the community with education, guidance, webinars, updates, and sometimes just to talk during the pandemic,” said Green. “We assisted nearly 400 businesses that we know of, in the past seven months, and we did this all while not decreasing our staffing, hours or opportunities.”
“We recreated our business model and support services to meet Chenango County businesses where they needed us; I am extremely proud of our work this year, and the response to this auction has shown us that the community appreciates our hard work, and they want to give back.”
She said the auction promises a wide array of over 60 plus items, and that Commerce Chenango thanks its chamber members, community businesses and even contacts outside of the county who want to help them and say “thank you” for the support that they provided in 2020.
Commerce Chenango assembled an exciting catalog of auction items to get people bidding.
Some of the items up for bid include: ‘The Snuggle is Real’, ‘History Buff’, ‘A Camper’s Delight, ‘A Night at the Museum’, ‘Mirror, Mirror’, ‘Ultimate Dental Package’, ‘Kitchen Essentials’, Gift Card Packages, Golf, Signature Apparel, ‘Dinner and Drinks’, a three night stay at a cabin on Chenango Lake, Jewelry and much more.
When asked about the businesses that donated items, Green said more than 50 donated, and the community’s support is a large part of what makes Chenango County such a great area to live in.
“This is a great example of how organizations such as Commerce Chenango can use technology to reach out to their supporters on a much larger scale, and raise the funds they need to make a difference in Moving Chenango Forward,” said Green. “Please consider reviewing our auction site, and get ready to start the bidding on November 6th at 5:00 p.m.”
“We hope the community enjoys this platform, and we thank all who made a donation and to Preferred Mutual Insurance Company for their sponsorship.”
Organized in 1959, Commerce Chenango is a not-for-profit, community based organization.
