NEW BERLIN – The Village of New Berlin is seeking approximately $150,000 to temporarily cover construction costs as work on its new community center continues.
According to Village of New Berlin Clerk Kelly Anderson, while Senator James Seward has pledged $150,000 in reimbursement funds, village officials have yet to receive them. Anderson said to be safe, the board is looking into ways to cover those costs temporarily while they wait for the grant to be approved.
“It can be a fairly lengthy process because it has to be approved before division of budgets, senate, and the assembly,” said Anderson. “There’s a three-way sign off process on any line item grant, and because we haven’t received a contract yet everything in the process has been delayed.”
“The senator has worked to get these funds for us, and as soon as we’re able we’ll submit for reimbursement.”
Anderson said as the project is underway and the bills have been coming in, replacement funding needs to be discussed because time is running short. She said if the village doesn’t receive the funds that were promised from the Senator Seward grant, the board has some funding available in reserves that could be utilized but the usage of those funds is intended for other purposes.
