Nina's Pizzeria holding Toys for Tots donation drive
The Toys for Tots 2019 drive by Nina's and the Colonia Theater saw well over 250 guests and raised about $7000 between toy donations and sponsors. The 2020 event this year is seeking drop-off donations only on Saturday Dec. 12 in the rear parking lot of Nina's Pizzeria. NORWICH – Despite the challenges local business leaders are facing many are still finding time to support community charities, who are also in need.
On Dec. 12 a toy drive and fundraiser will be hosted by staff at Nina's Pizzeria, with all donations going to Toys For Tots.
Nina's Pizzeria and the Colonia Theater had traditionally held a Spaghetti dinner fundraiser but COVID-19 social distancing restrictions made it impossible.
However, the pizzeria will still hold an outdoor toy drive from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 12.
Donations of unwrapped toys will be collected on the back of the building. The Toy Bus will be parked next to a holiday selfies scene for families to take photos. Individually wrapped refreshments, donated by Nina’s Pizzeria will be served.
According Ninas Pizzeria Owner Dave Shul, the free event helps support the efforts of the Toys for Tots organization despite the pandemic challenges.
Financial contributions will be also accepted. Checks can be made to Toys for Tots and dropped at the Nina’s toy donations drive event.

Last year the pizzeria and theater raised $7,000 Toy-for-Tots.
The “dinner and movie” event was deemed a great success by organizer Lon Yerton. He said he hopes this year will be just as successful, since the need is greater.
Yerton is the head waiter at Nina's, located along South Broad Street in Norwich.
“Between toys and sponsored donations and the cash we took in, it was about $7000 dollars total. There were 400 toys on the bus and with the cash we took in we bought more toys,” Yerton said following the 2019 event.
