NORWICH – The Norwich Family YMCA has announced the chairpersons for its annual support campaign, and is now attempting to raise thousands of dollars to support low income families and individuals.
According to Norwich Family YMCA Jamey Mullen, Kurt Edwards and Mary Carol Edwards have agreed to be this year’s chairpersons for the YMCA Support Campaign along with honorary chairpersons Jim and Virginia Edwards.
To support this years campaign, an online gift can be made at this link: https://norwichymca.wixsite.com/opendoors or a donation card can be completed to support the 2020-2021 Open Doors Annual Campaign.
“The Norwich YMCA is a charitable Not-for-Profit organization that relies on membership and program revenue along with charitable donations to support the Greater Norwich and Chenango County areas with programs and services to meet a diverse membership base and community need,” said Mullen. “Each year the YMCA raises thousands of dollars to support the many families and individuals with membership and program support.”
“This year has been challenging for the YMCA and families across the county, as we maneuver through the diverse needs of childcare and a safe and operable facility for all.”
Mullen said that he hopes the community can support the call for help and donate to this year's campaign.
“We all seem to have a YMCA story or memory and our chairpersons, the Edwards, are no different,” he said. “The ultimate goal is to provide and promote many more memories ahead for everyone, no matter one's ability, socio-economic background, race, religion, or gender.”
“We want to make sure the Y is here for everyone.”
In a group written and signed letter, the Edwards discussed their support for the Y and their history with the organization.
“It is a privilege and an honor for Mary Carol and me to Co-Chair the Annual Support Campaign with my parents Jim and Virginia,” said the Edwards in the letter. “Our family has a long history as members, and we all have benefited from many of the programs that the YMCA has to offer.”
They said what makes the Norwich Family YMCA extraordinary is its amazing staff and dedicated volunteers that passionately support the values of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
They added that The Norwich Family YMCA believes that everyone, regardless of age, income or background deserves the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.
“That’s why the Open Doors Scholarship program was started many years ago to help the Y provide important programs and services to people who might not have the financial means to take advantage of them,” said the Edwards. “Over the years thousands of families and children have been provided financial assistance for childcare, membership, youth sports and other activities.”
“The need for financial assistance today is greater than ever. Please consider a meaningful gift to the Annual Scholarship Campaign and join us in supporting our local Norwich Family YMCA.”
