New York State announces start of more high school sports on Feb. 1

NEW YORK – Effective February 1, high-risk high school sports will be able to begin in New York State with approval from the local health departments.

This is great news for our student athletes.

Norwich Athletics will be working with district administration, NYSPHSAA, Section IV Athletics, and the Southern Tier Athletic Conference in the upcoming days to prepare a safe comprehensive plan if permitted following all protocols for the return of high risk athletics.

More information will be forthcoming in the upcoming days.

New York's high risk sports include football, wrestling, basketball, volleyball, hockey, lacrosse and competitive cheer, among others.

Waivers for student athletes and adherence to state health guidelines will be required for participation.
