Helping Hands prepares for another giveback night tonight

NORWICH – Helping Hands Norwich’s giveback night will take place Thursday night, and event organizers are saying they’re posed to have a number of great items available thanks to generous donations earlier this week.

Helping Hands is a nonprofit composed of volunteers who help individuals by providing them donated goods. During giveback nights, people from around Chenango County bring their own items to be donated, and those who need the items are able to attend regardless of income.

According to Helping Hands Coordinator Lorri Race, tonight’s giveback night will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Norwich Family YMCA, and it will include a variety of items including pet food, milk, eggs, bread, hygiene and cleaning items, along with Valentine bags.

“If it wasn’t for so many amazing helping hands none of this would be possible,” she said. “The community is the one that is leading the charge.”

“We have so many amazing people donating and volunteering, and we don’t take that for granted.”

Race said the collection night earlier this month was a success with the addition of two wagons to the donation list along with the items that will be provided at tonight’s event.

She said for the convenience of those who donated items, Helping Hands had a barrel set up at the front lobby of the Norwich YMCA to make drop-offs quick and easy.

“We were blessed with so many thoughtful donations for collection night,” said Race. “A huge thank you to all of you who continue to support the mission of helping others.”

In a statement Race said that there are three different ways people can donate including online at Amazon, in bulk with delivery, or bagged with delivery. She said now more than ever the need for donations is present in her community.

“With the hard times that have fallen on our community, the need for donations is greater than ever,” said Race. “We appreciate your support and continued kindness to those in need.”
