Two fires at same residence under investigation in Plymouth

PLYMOUTH – Officials have confirmed that there is an ongoing investigation into two fires at a Plymouth residence which occurred earlier this month.

According to Chenango County Fire Bureau Coordinator Matthew Beckwith, there were two fires at a residence in Plymouth, one on February 11th and another on the 12th.

“We’re still investigating the cause of the fires at this time,” said Beckwith. “There was a fire at the home, and hours later we returned to the residence for another one.”

Members of the Plymouth Fire Department reported that they were dispatched for a residential structure fire in Plymouth on February 11th, and an aggressive interior attack was initiated by their first arriving engine.

They said due to the swift actions by our dedicated firefighters and mutual aid companies there was no loss of life.

They added that several agencies provided aid, including departments from Norwich, North Norwich, South Otselic, Smyrna, and Georgetown Fire Departments, Sherburne EMS, along with the County Fire Coordinators Office, County Fire Investigators, County Code Enforcement, Plymouth Highway Department, and NYSEG.

Volunteers from The American Red Cross also assisted by providing immediate emergency financial assistance, emotional support, blankets, toiletry kits and stuffed movie animals to two adults and three children.

Red Cross Disaster Action Team Supervisor Chris Sadlocha said the assisted family will meet with caseworkers in the coming days to work on a long-term recovery plan.

“I go out approximately twice a month, but folks in an urban setting like Rochester and Buffalo might go out more,” said Sadlocha. “We’re prioritizing virtual responses, but sometimes the Red Cross goes to the scene when there is no cell service.”

“Us reaching out to families who have had a fire is one of our main functions locally, but nationwide our focus is on helping people who suffer from national disaster.”

Sadlocha said anyone interested in learning more about The American Red Cross may visit redcross.org for additional information.
