Norwich takes on Oxford-Greene & Sus Valley in Weekend Wrestling Action
CONKLIN – The Norwich varsity wrestling team hit the road on Saturday February 27th traveling to take on Susquehanna Valley and Oxford-Greene in a weekend dual meet.
Norwich’s Andrew Brown won both of his matches in the 126 weight class, dispatching Oxford-Greene’s Aiden Marcin in a 9-5 decision, and defeating O-G’s Christian Bowers by pin in 3:25.
In the 118 bout, SV’s Mark Molder defeated Norwich’s Regan Roach by pin in 1:49. O-G’s Kaad’n Wakefield defeated Roach by a 15-0 technical fall in 5:15. SV’s Tim Boice also defeated Roach by pin.
In the two 145 weight class, both Tornados’ Brady Smith and Nate Murphy defeated their opposition. Smith won over SV’s Zach Fedorich by pin in 14 seconds, while Murphy won over O-G’s Christian Bowers by a 16-0 technical fall in 5:45.
In the 189 bouts, O-G’s Damien Hitt defeated Norwich’s Jacob Hagenbuch by pin in 1:48 and O-G’s Hunter Page pinned Hagenbuch in 1:23. Also in the 189 weight class, Norwich’s Joey Marvin defeated Page by a 9-0 major decision.
Norwich’s Mason Edwards and Ashton Jenkins both went perfect in their 160 bouts. Edwards defeated SV’s Isreal Rivera by pin in 3:30 and O-G’s Damien Hitt also by pin in 1:20. Meanwhile, Jenkins defeated O-G’s Lyric Libby by pin in 3:15 and defeated O-G’s Logan Rudolph by an 8-5 decision later in the meet.
In the 152 weight class, SV’s Richie Diffendorf and Davonte Rivera both defeated Norwich’s Marshall Morris by pin.
In the 285 weight class, Norwich’s Robert McIntyre defeated SV’s Damion Zutkowski by pin in 3:31, and Zutkowski would rebound as he defeated Norwich’s Braden Reid in a 7-5 decision.
“The team looked pretty good overall” said Norwich Head Coach Bob Hagenbuch, “Things are starting to click. It’s too bad there is only one week left (of the season)… In the short time together they have already formed a bond.”
Hagenbuch noted that this weekend was where the Purple Tornado are usually up in Albany for the New York State Championships. And while the New York State Championships were cancelled for winter sports, the Tornado will still seek to put a crown on the COVID-19 shortened season as they finish up their season with a meet at Maine-Endwell on Thursday March 4th before turning around and hosting Oxford-Greene on Friday March 5th for the Purple Tornado’s Senior Night.
