Tornado XC falls short at Windsor

WINDSOR – Two point separated the Norwich Purple Tornado and the Windsor Black Knights on Tuesday March 23rd’s varsity boys cross-country meet. The Black Knights defeated the Tornado 27-29.
Norwich’s Julian Roque and Makaio Sutton navigated the 2.4 mile course with ease as the Tornado duo placed first and second in times of 13:22.8 and 14:21.7 minutes.
“Julian took off to a commanding lead right from the first quarter mile and he pushed the pace early…he really just took control” said Head Coach Shaun Horan, “Makaio just raced really smart…he made it so he could deliver the second place finish…he did a great job.”
Despite the one-two punch from Roque and Sutton, Windsor managed to secure third place finish from Jake Sansom, Caleb Llewelleyn in fourth, Connor Fosdick in fifth and Vlad Shehan in sixth place. Dom Sodon rounded out the scoring for the Black Knights with a 16:59 minute performance for ninth place.
Norwich’s Zander Sutton and Andrew Meccariello finished within one second of each other in 16:36.4 and 16:37.4 minutes respectively for seventh and eighth place, Kyle Vanderweyde rounding out the scoring for the Purple Tornado in 17:56.
For the NHS girls’ team, Hannah Debates finished the 2.4 mile course in 19:44.2 minutes and Robyn Diehl cross the finish line in 21:18.
The Purple Tornado harriers return to action on Saturday March 27th when they travel to Maine-Endwell for a meet between Union-Endicott, Delhi, Johnson City and Maine-Endwell.
