Tornado top Hawkeyes on senior night
NORWICH – Norwich Purple Tornado girls’ varsity volleyball team volleyball was back in action on Monday April 5th when they hosted the Cooperstown Hawkeyes on senior night. Prior to the match, Norwich seniors Katie Turner, Marissa Ramey and Sammi Taylor were honored for their academic and athletic achievements and contributions to the NHS girls’ volleyball program.
Once the pre-game festivities concluded; both teams were all business. Cooperstown came into the contest prepared and it showed in the first game as Norwich dropped the opener to Cooperstown 25-17. But this was a situation that the Purple Tornado have been familiar in this season and the gritty Tornado girls stormed back- winning the next three games 25-21, 25-14 and 25-10 to take the victory on the evening.
Norwich’s service was right on cue with 77% of the NHS’ service landed in play, combine that with the unselfish play from the tandem of Maddy Morris and Madisyn Ryan that combined for 27 assists on the night. The Tornado didn’t just play with finesse from their passing game; they also brought the power as Lauren Squires, Marissa Ramey and Miranda Cole combined for 29 kills of their teams 32 kills in the contest.
Norwich returns to action on Thursday April 8th when they travel to Binghamton to take on Chenango Forks with game time slated for 6:30pm.
