Soccer: Greene holds on to edge Oxford
GREENE – Greene built a three-goal lead midway through the second half, but had to withstand a big Oxford rally hanging on for a 3-2 victory, Monday afternoon at George G. Raymond Field.
Sarah Markham scored two first-half goals for Greene (3-4), and Cassie Butler’s goal for Greene in the 20th minute of the second half had the host club in command.
Hailey Fleury put Oxford (3-4) on the board seven minutes after Butler’s goal getting an assist from Kaylin Tefft.
With 8:45 to play, Taylor Smith drew Oxford to within one following a pass from Lizzie Knapp.
“We came alive a little too late tonight, but toward the end of the second half, we really came alive,” said Oxford coach Sierra Badger. “We happened to score two goals late in the second half, and unfortunately, there not enough time left.”
Greene wraps up its season Tuesday at Sidney, while Oxford closes its Fall 2 sports campaign Wednesday at Delhi.

NEW BERLIN - Afton-Harpursville spoiled Unadilla Valley-GMU’s senior recognition night capitalizing on two second-half opportunities in a 2-0 shutout win on Saturday.
Robert Mercellott and Equan Patterson had the game’s lone tallies. The first goal came on a penalty kicks following a UV-GMU in the 18-yard box.
Six minutes later, the visiting club added insurance following a UV-GMU own goal.

GREENE - Dominant serving from Deposit-Hancock’s Kaitlyn Macumber led Deposit-Hancock to a 25-13, 25-8, 25-11 sweep of Greene on Monday.
Macumber had 19 service aces, or 42 percent of the Eagles’ total points.
Krystan Cudney had three service aces for Greene.
