Meet the new mayor of New Berlin

NEW BERLIN – In mid-March, former Village of New Berlin Mayor Terry Potter stepped away from his position after years of service, and the new mayor Peter Lennon stepped in to fill the role.
According to Village of New Berlin Mayor Peter Lennon, coordination and collaboration with other entities in New Berlin are a couple of his key focuses for change in the area.
Lennon said he served for nearly 40 years as a logistician in both the Active Army and Army Reserve, with numerous assignments throughout the United States, Germany, Hungary, Iraq, and Kuwait. He said he retired in 2017 as a Major General from Fort Bragg, North Carolina and soon returned home to the Village of New Berlin.
He said that he continues to serve as an advisor to numerous economic development and wellness programs throughout the Southern Tier and Mohawk Valley and is on the advisory board of various national programs that support veterans.
He added that he hopes to put that experience to good use in the Village of New Berlin.
“For as long as I’m mayor, I want to continue to push for more transparency in government and cooperation between local entities including the school district, Rotary, and the Town of New Berlin,” said Lennon. “I wanted to run because I saw that there were great beams of light shooting upwards in this community, but they weren’t focused.”
“I know if we can bring those beams to convergence, then we’ll have created a laser.”
Lennon said there are many great projects in the works thanks to the efforts of former mayor Potter including the push to get LED lights throughout the village, major infrastructure grants, the village-wide text alert system, and the Chobani Community Center.
He said there are lots of good things happening in New Berlin, and it's right on the cusp of a reenergized solution.
“I’ve lived all over the world, and this is where I’ve always come back to - this has always been my home,” said Lennon. “There’s so much potential here, and I want to do my part in pushing us from the red zone to the end zone.”
