NORWICH – After a hard fought season, the Norwich Mock Trial team placed first in Chenango County, and made it to the semi-finals in New York State for the first time in years and despite the difficulties of the pandemic.
The event occurred at 9 a.m. on Friday morning and numerous local legal representatives and judicial representatives were in attendance.
New York State Supreme Court Appellate Division Justice Elizabeth Garry spoke at the event and applauded the Norwich Mock Trial team’s efforts, along with the efforts of all of the guest judges that helped throughout the year.
“You had done so well locally, so to hear that you went on to go into the regions, and then onto the semifinals - I’m very proud of you,” said Garry. “Thank you to everyone who was involved in making this happen.
Chenango County Bar Association President Claudette Newman also spoke at the event, and commended the students for their dedication during the pandemic.
“On behalf of the bar I welcome all of you and congratulate the Norwich team for winning this year’s county championship and for doing so well on the statewide champion,” said Newman. “You guys adapted much better than we did to going virtual, and you should be commended for that.”
“I watched a lot of the competitions, and you all did so well.”
