Sheriff’s office promotes deputy to detective

CHENANGO COUNTY – After more than a decade on the job, the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office has promoted a deputy to the recently opened detective slot in response to his hard work and dedication.


According to Chenango County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Joshua Gould, Anthony Lawrence was promoted to a detective’s position after receiving numerous awards for his leadership and tenacity in the field.


On May 11, 2021, Chenango County Sheriff Ernest Cutting issued a Detective Star to newly assigned Detective Anthony Lawrence, who was joined by Lt. Joshua Gould and Detective Sergeant Gary Miller for the presentation.

“It’s the natural progression of someone who has done a good job as an officer, and he’s handled his cases well and worked hard over his years here,” said Gould. “Anthony has been in the department going on his 11th year, he’s had an outstanding career, with approximately a dozen Deputy of the Month awards for his efforts.”


“I think everyone in the department is happy for him, and it’s definitely well deserved.”
