Illegal parking investigation in Greene leads to drug bust
GREENE – Police discovered a man slumped over in an illegally parked vehicle in the Village of Greene on Thursday, and after a brief investigation discovered 16 grams of suspected heroin in his possession.
According to Greene Police Department Officer In Charge Michael Nordberg, at approximately 7 a.m. on Thursday May 27 on Madison Street in the Village of Greene, an individual was spotted slumped over in a vehicle which was illegally parked.
Nordberg said after approaching the vehicle, spotting a meth pipe in the cupholder, and pulling the individual out of the vehicle, he discovered heroin in their pants pockets.
Christopher Fuller, 27, of Oxford was identified and charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a class C felony.
“It started off as something kind of simple, basically just parking illegally, but after a brief investigation it led to something much more serious,” said Nordberg. “This is one of the larger drug busts that’s occurred in the Village of Greene.”
Nordberg said he was driving through the village doing a routine check, and noticed that on Madison Street there was a vehicle parked in the roadway blocking a cutoff road.
“No one could go through, which was obstructing traffic,” he said. “I noticed that the male subject in the vehicle had his head down.”
“After questioning him, I noticed a meth pipe in one of the cupholders, and asked him to get out of the vehicle.”
He added that Fuller identified the meth pipe, and after searching Fuller he found sizable bags of a white substance in his left hand pocket.
“He called it dope, which is heroin, and he said there was about 8 grams in each bag,” said Nordberg. “There turned out to be approximately 20 grams in total, which was enough to make it a class C felony.”
“With the help of the New York State Police we took him into custody and we processed him.”
Nordberg said Fuller was issued an appearance ticket due to the somewhat recent criminal justice reforms, and he is expected to appear in the Greene Village Court on June 3rd for his arraignment.
