NORWICH — The Chenango County Dairy Day is fast approaching, and officials are getting everything in place to ensure a successful day.
The event, which will be ringing in it's 20th year, is taking place on June 19, with the parade set to take place at 10:30 a.m.
USDA Natural Resources Conservationist and Dairy Day Committee member Karen Hoffman is assisting in the planning of the parade, which she said will look a little different this year.
"We used to do it in the City of Norwich you know, like on the streets, but this year because it's all kind of last minute planning we decided to do it on the track and the grandstand," said Hoffman. "Because we were not sure exactly what the regulations were gonna be."
The parade will kick off the day's events. It will be led by Shelby Benjamin, the reigning New York State Dairy Princess, according to Hoffman.
"We always have a dignitary to lead the parade, that's a marshall, that'll be Shelby," she said.
Hoffman also said the recently appointed court members will also be in the parade, as well as politicians, and trucks and equipment from local businesses and farms.
"The newly crowned court will be in it, we'll have some local politicians," said Hoffman. "Chobani's going to be in the parade, Reese Marshall, we'll have one of their trucks, there's going to be a lot of tractors and trucks from local farms."
Due to the changes for this year's parade, Hoffman stated she is eager to let the public know about the changes, so no one misses the event.
"We used to parade on East Main Street, but then because it's a state route there was all kinds of insurance requirements and permits we needed to get, so we moved it," Hoffman explained. "We're really trying to get the word out this year that it's at the fairgrounds, it's not anywhere on the streets in the City of Norwich."
