Oxford Fire Department to review proposed projects before referendum

OXFORD — The Village of Oxford and the fire department will be holding a community forum at 7 p.m., Monday, June 28 to discuss river erosion and impacts it may have on the fire department.

The meeting will be held at the Oxford Fire Station, located at 20 Main Street in Oxford.

The forum will discuss proposed renovations to the fire station and erosion concerns of the nearby Chenango River, which may threaten the fire station in the years to come.

Since replacing Oxford’s iconic truss bridge along Main Street about ten years ago the river bank has seen significant erosion.

The growing concern has prompt village officials to analyze ways to protect the 1970’s era fire station.

The village is preparing to go to referendum for approval on the proposed projects to address the issue. Those wishing to learn more about the projects should attend Monday’s meeting.
