NORWICH – The Chenango United Way has begun its fundraising efforts to serve social programs that assist the local community.

Local organizations seeking the charity's support need to fill out an application by October 15, and will be announced early next year following a review and vote.

Chenango United Way Executive Director Elizabeth Monaco expressed her excitement for the new process in a notice sent out to potential applicants.

“I am looking forward to a strong campaign and some excellent opportunities to fund great programs in our local community over the next two years,” she stated.

She described the online process as easy to use, and hopes it will reduce errors found on applications.

Monaco said the group tries to help as many people as possible but receives more requests for aid than they can fulfill.

The process for requesting funding has changed to become exclusively available online. Organizations can apply on www.chenangouw.org. Applications and other materials are featured under the “2022-2023 RFP” menu on the website.

The Chenango United Way made its request applications available on August 13.

This process offers two years of funding for various community programs. Applicants will be able to apply for a set amount of funding online. The funding comes through donations and payroll deductions.

Social programs that provide assistance with education, health, and financial stability are eligible to receive funding.

Previous programs that have received funds include the Guernsey Memorial Library’s Books from Birth, the Norwich Family YMCA’s Girl’s Circle, and various food pantries throughout the county.

Around 20 programs are chosen by Chenango United Way every year. Financial reports must be sent by each one that receives funding for open transparency.

Eligible programs can receive a minimum of $5,000 and a maximum of $25,000 per year. The applications will be available until October 15. Selected candidates well be announced by February 1, 2022.

Applications being online-only allows Chenango United Way to streamline the entire funding process, from submitting applications to conducting virtual voting sessions within the organization. The change also allows for applications to be digitally archived. A panel reviews all of the applications and determines which programs should receive their proposed funding request.
