SHERBURNE – The New York State Police responded to an accident involving a rolled over van at about 12:45 p.m., Saturday, along State Highway 12, just south of an intersection with Fletcher Road.
A trooper at the scene said police were still investigating the cause of the accident and no tickets had been issued. Police said luckily no one was injured in the crash and the van had been traveling south when the driver lost control.
Local residents and passing motorists stopped to help the driver from the vehicle and direct traffic until the Sherburne Fire Department arrived a short time later. Crews had the roadway cleared by about 1:45 p.m.
The area where the accident occurred is a 55-mile-per-hour speed zone. Neighbors said local vehicles are often parked along the road’s shoulders near where the crash occurred, creating a bottleneck for passing traffic.
