CHENANGO COUNTY – Friday wraps up the three part series presented this week by Commerce Chenango highlighting manufacturing in Chenango County in celebration of Manufacturing Day 2021.

We felt the series would not be complete without spotlighting one of Chenango County’s historical industrialists that have withstood the test of time, Page Seed Company.

Page Seed Company, located in Greene, NY, was founded by Erford and Cornelia Page in 1896 and 125 years later, business is still going strong. The couple started out selling sweet pea and nasturtium seeds over a century ago and now the business has grown to offer an abundant variety of choices ranging from flowers and vegetables to herbs and organics.  Currently, their bestselling seed products are traditional garden varieties such as beans, corn, peas, carrots, radish and sunflowers. They have worked hard throughout the years to be able to offer the highest quality seeds possible and as a result they do not offer any retail or custom imprinted packets that are genetically engineered.

In addition to retail seed packets, they also specialize in the promotional product industry and create custom seed packets for all occasions such as business advertising, weddings, memorials and more.  Their inventory also includes turf seed and forages as well as seed in bulk with packages ranging from one to fifty pounds.

Their customer base consists of various businesses that purchase their products for distribution.  Although they do not have a local shop of their own, they are happy to connect local customers with local distributors to facilitate sales and the needs of the community.

Page Seed Company currently employs thirty people, ten of which that are usually seasonal employees for times when seed packets are in production. However, with the unprecedented time that people have been spending at home as a result of the global pandemic, many have turned to gardening and there has been a large increase in demand for seeds. As a result, seasonal employees have remained employed outside their normal season without layoff. To learn more about Page Seed Company, visit their website at https://pageseed.com/ .
