"Thank you all for joining us in recognizing the McLaughlin's Department Store ... and the entire McLaughlin's family, for their many years of service to the community, not only with the store, but for being active with the many different community events and organizations that make Norwich a great place to live," said B.I.D. Administrator Tracy Chawgo.

McLaughlin's Department Store first opened it's doors in 1975. Founder Spencer McLaughlin started the family business with his father, Clifford Sr., and brother, Clifford Jr., in 1955.

The trio began by buying several movie theaters in the Waterville area, and eventually expanding to encompass other commercial retailers. It was through this expansion that McLaughlin's Department Store was born.

I purchased my very first Jansport book bag from here in 1996 and I used to love coming in and just walking around the store after school. I moved away in 2000 but that memory has always stuck with me. Thank you for those memories of a time that seems so long gone. Best wishes for all of your futures!
